Hi friends! Happy Monday! If you follow along on Instagram then you know that we took a family trip this past weekend. It was an adventure that I will always cherish. December 1st was our real anniversary (4 years!). We had a romantic dinner at home and Ryan surprised me with a getaway to Keswick Hall! With the hectic hustle and bustle holiday schedules and still getting into a routine with Michael, we decided to postpone our trip for mid-January so we could really relax and enjoy it. Then Virginia got hit with a crazy snow and ice storm… So… we postponed again! We booked it for Valentine’s Day weekend (and the 1-year anniversary of finding out we were pregnant!). After much anticipation, this past Saturday morning, my little family packed up the car and scooted to Charlottesville for our belated celebration! Aside from going to the rivah, this was a our first family vacation!
It took less than an hour to get there and Michael slept the whole way. As we cruised down the highway, the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains brought a smile to our faces. We’re here! The gates opened to Keswick Hall and welcomed us with open arms! We got checked-in and couldn’t wait to explore! So much history, such beauty! The outstanding customer service, statues, the artwork, the french music roaming the halls, the furniture, the architecture… so much character with no detail overlooked. Although it felt like a massive mansion it still had a quaint and cozy B&B feel to it. It was slightly overcast outside and the air was crisp. We had lunch at the Club Grill, strolled the grounds, I taught Ryan how to play croquet (he lost), we sipped hot apple cider (the best we’ve ever had!), and played chess (ahem, Ryan lost again, HA!). It was about time for Michael’s nap just when our room was ready. They upgraded our room to a corner suite… what?! Our room was insane! This was Michael’s first time staying at a resort… needless to say, he was pretty impressed! The huge comfy bed, the soaker tub, the towel heat warmer, and the first time we had a pack n’ play in our hotel room (they prepared his bed with giraffe sheets). We opened the door to our private terrace… WOW!! It wrapped around the corner of the building and overlooked their immaculate golf course. So incredibly peaceful.
We all took a quick power nap and then there was a knock on our door. The staff dropped by a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, some chocolate caramels (my favorite!), and a personalized note wishing us a happy anniversary! How incredibly thoughtful! We decided to forego swimming and instead pop some bubbly out on our balcony and toast to the view. We set Michael up in the room to watch his favorite Baby Einstein show and he was in Heaven! We spent the rest of the afternoon in our PJs, goofing around with Michael in our room, and I loved every minute of it!
Ryan and I got dressed up all fancy to enjoy and deliciously romantic dinner at Fossetts (named after the 16-year chef for Thomas Jefferson). The red wine flowed as we toasted to how much our life has changed in so many amazing ways over the years. The filet, the rack of lamb, the sorbet, and the caramel apple tart… mouth-watering good! Michael slept 10 hours Saturday night! We woke up Sunday morning to a sunny 80° day! We ordered room service… we couldn’t let our balcony morning view go to waste. It was time to pack up but we didn’t want to leave!! We just might have to make this an annual tradition! While it was an incredible family vacation… nothing beats home sweet home!
Growing up, my family took our video camera along to every vacation, special occasion, holiday, etc. and still today I enjoy watching our home videos. They bring back so many memories!! So, when Michael was born, I made a promise to him to make fun little slideshow videos of our special times together. I made a highlight reel of his first Christmas and below is another from our latest getaway. With it being an anniversary trip, I went with our 1st dance song. Enjoy! 🙂
