2015 Shoot & Share Contest

As you may already know, I’m a Shoot & Share photographer. I offer a service-based experience for my clients where their investment includes all of the high-resolution digital images. I’m part of a community of more than 25,000 photographers around the world where our businesses are built on the sole purpose of serving others. It’s a membership community to inspire, connect, and educate photographers.

Shoot & Share offers an annual free contest where photographers from all over the world can submit their top 40 images amongst 21 categories. The purpose of this contest is to bring our community together, showcase our work, encourage and congratulate recognitions, and gain inspiration. The most unique part about this contest is that it’s “all about the photos”… meaning, the judging takes place without having the photographer’s name tagged to it to persuade voters one way or another and you can’t “rally” others to vote for your photo because it’s completely anonymous… completely fair. Each photo is given equal opportunity to be voted on. The other best part to this contest? Anyone can participate in the voting… We choose the winners. When voting, 4 images come up on your screen and you choose the best 1 out of those 4. Random groups of 4 are continually displayed thereafter. There are 12 rounds of voting.Screen Shot 2015-06-02 at 8.32.34 AM

For the 2015 contest, check this out…. These stats represent the number of participants, votes, and photos submitted. That’s impressive!! I want to note that the submission deadline for the 2015 contest was actually back in February, the judging took place shortly after, and the winners were announced in March. SO… the work that I submitted was primarily captured in 2014.

When the results where in… I was INCREDIBLY humbled, honored, proud, giddy, excited,… you get where I’m going here… to have had 4 of my images selected for awards out of the 40 that I submitted. Two of which were FINALIST images, one was in the top 10%, and another was in the top 30%. This was the first ever submission that I had done with my work… talk about a confidence booster!!!

My awards! 🙂

This was a FINALIST image that I captured in the woods of Deep Run Park during a maternity session.
Still one of my favorite images to date! The below image made it to the 12th round of voting.
It placed 125 out of 3,858 in the Maternity category.

Another favorite from a newborn session I captured this past February. A natural, genuine moment of sweet brotherly love. These two cuties are also my neighbors too (LOL!) so I get to see their sweet faces often!
This FINALIST image also made it to the 12th round of voting. It placed 703 out of 13,339 in the Children category.

The below image was captured during my Holiday Mini-Session Series in December 2014 at Tuckahoe Plantation. Love this sweet family!! They are a family of 4 now! They are such loyal clients and I have the pleasure of capturing new memories for them every year! This image made it the 11th round of voting (top 10%!). It placed 425 out of 6,486 in the Families category.

The below image was also captured during my Holiday Mini-Session Series in December 2014 at Tuckahoe Plantation. The smiles of these precious twins will melt your heart! I have also had the pleasure of working with them every year and love watching their little ones grow! This image made it the 7th round of voting (top 30%!). It placed 1,877 out of 6,486 in the Families category.

Kristy Ryan was the Grand Prize Winner of the entire contest and cleaned house with all of her award recognitions! Much respect for Kristy and her incredible work!! So inspirational!

Kristy’s engagement photo won 1st place! Isn’t this stunning?! Kristy explains how she got the shot… “We were planning on taking this shot with a drone, but right when it was taking off, the propeller broke! It was getting dark and there was no time to fix it. Then we had an idea, we noticed an excavator on the property. The grooms dad fired it up and my husband hopped inside the bucket. They raised the arm of the excavator as high as it would go and we still managed to get our ariel shot. Where there is a will, there is a way!”

Many, many, many thanks to the Shoot & Share leadership team for working countless hours to pull off such a successful contest! It rallied photographers from all over the world and we’re all SO excited for the contest starting up again in February 2016!!! I’m already gearing up for it — It’s going to be soooo very hard to narrow down to only 40 images!! Stay tuned and fingers crossed!!
