A Very Merry Christmas

Hello again! It feels good to be back on the blog after the holiday break. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!! My holiday season was fabulous!! You may have caught my blog post earlier this month about my December highlights regarding my busy, busy schedule!

My hubby and I hosted our inaugural Jingle Ball the Saturday before Christmas. It was a smashing success!! It was so very nice to catch up with family and friends. We also caught lots of laughs in our homemade photo booth!! Good times were had by all 🙂

For Christmas Eve, we attended Church at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. It was a beautiful service and all the caroling certainly got me in the Christmas spirit! Ryan and I headed over to visit with some close family friends while enjoying cocktails and delicious food. We spent the night at my parents house for Christmas Eve so we could wake up there in the morning. It was so very special that my brother, his wife Rachael, and Rach’s Mom and Grandmother were able to spend the night too. SO great to have everyone under one roof! We have an annual tradition to drive by and see the tacky light house (in our PJs!)… it’s just not Christmas until we see it 🙂

I love being at my parents house for Christmas time. Their house is absolutely lovely and decorated to perfection! There is nothing like the incredible feeling of walking through the front door to hear Christmas carols playing in the background, the candles all lit, the smell of delicious food lingering in the air, and this Christmas tree lit up. It warms my heart each year!!

We all got up Christmas morning and Santa definitely came!! After enjoying some delicious breakfast (Mom’s annual tradition breakfast casserole!) and a mimosa (or two!) we started unwrapping. I cannot believe all the wonderful presents that Ryan and I received this year. We surprised my mother-in-law with a wedding album — she was very excited! Mom made a Christmas day lamb dinner that was so very delicious! We are so very fortunate to have our family live so close so we can spend some quality time together over the holidays.

Allison Shumate Photography got some very nice gifts this Christmas!! A Kelly Moore camera bag (anniversary present on 12/1!), an SB-700 Speedlight flash, a fun photography book, an antique camera for my office, an ExpoDisc, and some cute picture frames. During the after-Christmas sales I treated myself to a 35mm f/1.8 lens and a backdrop support system (for newborn/children shoots). Beyond excited for these new additions to my business — cannot wait to see what 2014 has in store for me.

This past weekend Ryan’s aunt, uncle, and cousins came to visit. It was so much fun having all the cousins stay at our house. We love to entertain and it was so great catching up with everyone. Ryan’s aunt treated all of us to brunch at the Jefferson. I’ve lived in Richmond for roughly 20 years and I have yet to do brunch at the Jefferson — delicious!! Yes, I may have enjoyed 3 full plates of food!!

Typically Ryan and I have big plans to ring in the New Year. Instead of fighting the crowds downtown… we’re celebrating in our PJs at home with our dog, Jax, and lots of champagne. After a busy holiday season… a relaxing New Year celebration sounds perfect!! I can’t believe today is the last day in 2013. It was another incredible year and I can’t wait for what 2014 has in store!!

Happy New Year everyone. See you next year!!! 🙂
