Hi friends!! My apologies for being MIA these last few weeks!! I wanted to hop on the blog before we get into the New Year! Can you believe that it’s almost 2017?! It sure has been a busy, busy, December gearing up for Michael’s first Christmas! While I wanted to still post fun photos on social media along the way… I also wanted to make more of an effort to be unplugged and present in the many special moments our family shared this Christmas season. While I’m sad all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays is over… I’m also somewhat relieved that things will start to slow down a bit. Has anyone else taken their Christmas decorations down?? Two days after Christmas I took down everything but the tree… I just needed to de-clutter and get my house back! My word for next year is SIMPLIFY! To find joy in the simple, everyday moments. Less is more!
December kicked off with my 4th wedding anniversary! We popped some champagne and reminisced about our big day. You may recall me squeezing into my wedding dress (an annual tradition!) on Instagram. Ryan surprised me with a trip for our anniversary. Next weekend, we are scooting to Charlottesville for an overnight at Keswick Hall. So fancy! We’ve never been! Michael will be joining us for this romantic getaway. I can’t wait!
In early December I hosted my second round of Holiday Mini-Sessions at Tuckahoe Plantation. I photographed a total of 31 mini-sessions this season… whew! I loved catching up with my returning clients and meeting new friends! What I loved most about shooting these family sessions were opening all of the Christmas cards that have arrived in the mail! My heart just sings to see all of the beautiful cards roll in filled with images I’ve captured.
Speaking of Christmas cards… we ordered ours off Minted. This year, we did a birth announcement for our Christmas card and mailed it out to our wedding guest list and it was the first year I included my fabulous ASP clients. I had a few undeliverable with address changes so I hope you got yours! 🙂
December was filled with lots of other festivities too!! Bunco with the neighborhood girls, a new haircut, volunteered at the Order of Malta Soup Kitchen, Michael’s 2-month check-up, a special visit from my BFF since middle school, tacky light tours, neighborhood gatherings, and more! We had our 5th annual Jingle Ball! Loved getting dressed up and having our house filled with our dear family and friends to celebrate the Christmas season. Our family also went to Lewis Ginter GardenFest of Lights. SO cool! I think we’ll make this an annual tradition! My niece and nephew loved it and Michael had wide-eyes the entire time amazed by all of the pretty colors. Santa was there too!!
Christmas Eve our family went to church at St. Mary’s then continued on with our annual Christmas traditions. Ryan, Michael, and I stopped by to see some family friends. My parents always host Christmas Eve dinner and we read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to the kiddos (a tradition my brother and I always did growing up!). Christmas morning, each year, we sit at the top of the stairs at my parent’s house and walk down as a family to see what Santa brought us! It’s so fun to carry on this tradition with our little ones. Christmas day was amazing! I snuggled Michael up as he slept right on my chest, my niece and nephew ripped open the wrapping paper to their presents, the fireplace was roaring, quality time spent with family, and we enjoyed a delicious meal! Can’t believe this time next year Michael will be able to walk to the Christmas tree!
I brought my camera gear to capture all of the fun Christmas Day but would you believe that I didn’t snap one photo with my camera the entire day?! That’s a first!! I was able to be fully present in the moment and it felt so good! With Michael in tow I usually only have 1 arm available… so, instead I took a few with my phone and the rest of the day I caught snippets of moments with my video camera. My family had a video camera growing up and I love re-watching our home videos when we were little. When I got home I put together a quick highlight reel of the day and it’s something I plan to do each year going forward! It will be such a fun way to watch our family grow over the years! My heart is so full — I’ve watched this video over and over. See below 🙂
To celebrate New Year’s Eve we’ll be at Denton Abbey! Our family arrived yesterday and it’s been such a relaxing way to end the year. 2016 was filled with unbelievable memories and milestones! Cannot wait to see what 2017 will bring! Hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season! Happy New Year!!!
