Woo hoo!! I’ve been counting down the days and the time has finally come! Wedding season for Allison Shumate Photography has officially stared for 2015. This coming Saturday Juel and John will say “I Do!” on the sandy beaches of Tulum, Mexico surrounded by their friends and family. I couldn’t be happier for these two!
I’ve known Juel for many years now. She’s best friends with my sister-in-law Rachael. My brother and Rach have a very close group of friends and it’s been so great to get to know Juel over the years. She has a heart of gold!! Always smiling and upbeat, such a sweet soul. I was so excited to hear she had a new beau when she started dating John. These two are perfect for each other. John is kind, smart, witty, and a handsome fellow — Juel is a lucky lady!
These two met through mutual friends but really connected on the dance floor at a friend’s wedding. Fast forward three years… John proposed to Juel on her birthday last year. They opened a special bottle of wine to celebrate her birthday then John disappeared in their apartment. Within moments he had Gracie (their dog) heading down the stairs in an adorable dress and necklace, while playing her favorite tune (“Imagine” by John Lennon). She had her ring on her necklace. Juel stood stunned that all of what was happening and moments later John came down and dropped to one knee. His proposal melted her heart and she said “YES!”.
It wasn’t long after Juel reached out to me about wedding photography. I had my fingers crossed they would book me! We had their engagement session back in October. They both live in an incredible apartment in downtown Richmond so they chose Libby Hill Park and Rockett’s Landing for their engagement session. I always encourage my clients to pick a location that is special to them — a familiar and comfortable environment will allow me to capture natural, genuine images. They brought along Gracie too! She’s so precious! Gracie’s sister, Katie, belongs to Maury and Rach — it’s so cute to see them together! I had so much fun exploring during their engagement session — the weather was perfect and we spent the afternoon chatting about wedding day details. A destination wedding in Tulum, Mexico. YAY!!!!!!
Today I arrived in Tulum and it’s breathtaking! So glad my hubby is here to enjoy this adventure with me. Maury, Rach, AND my sweet nephew, Maury Jr., will be here tomorrow. So very ready to soak up some all-inclusive sunshine and celebrate these two love birds! We have a full 5 days of festivities ahead including a sunrise engagement session at the ancient Tulum Ruins!! Can’t wait to post pictures along the way! 🙂
This destination wedding will be an absolute dream! I am so very honored that Juel and John have invested in me to join them in Tulum, Mexico to capture this monumental time in their lives. So grateful for their trust to capture their BIG day as it unfolds. Congratulations and cheers to this lovely couple!
