I can’t believe the time had finally come for Katy and Matt’s engagement session! After many, many, many emails since last December when Katy and I first spoke about their wedding day — it is now just around the corner. This past weekend we got together for their engagement session and I’m so very excited to share some of my favorite images with you today.
I had butterflies of excitement when driving to our location spot. While in the car on the way, I was thinking to myself that it was a morning of “firsts” for Allison Shumate Photography. It was the first time I had woken up at 5:00 AM for a sunrise shoot. The first time I brought along my portable Bose sound dock for some tunes for us to enjoy, and the first time I had photographed a session at Libby Hill Park and Rocketts Landing. It was also my first time meeting Katy’s fiancé, Matt! There was certainly a lot to smile about that morning 🙂
Matt and Katy have been dating for six years! He proposed last May while they were hiking along the Billy Goat Trail. They both live in northern VA and they have pretty hectic schedules as they count down the weeks until their BIG day! Last weekend they headed into Richmond and planned a weekend getaway with family after their engagement shoot. Let me just say that I am a newfound lover of sunrise sessions!! I arrived 20 minutes early to scope out the environment, capture some detail scenery shots, and got ready for the Bride & Groom to arrive. For a July morning, the weather was perfect. It wasn’t too hot and there was a slight fog in the air which gave their images an extra romantic touch.
Libby Hill Park was a perfect location for these two lovebirds!! First of all, we had the entire park to ourselves!! The park was filled with gorgeous flowers, greenery, cobblestone walls, great views, and walking trails. Afterwards we headed over to Rocketts Landing for some fun on the docks overlooking the Richmond skyline. I absolutely loved the light of the morning sun shining on the James River and the beautiful boats docked by the shore.
It was such a joy to photograph this exciting time with Katy and Matt. The way he looks at her and the way she smiles back at him — you can certainly tell that they are very much in love. Did I mention that they are a gorgeous couple together?? Spoil alert — these two can rock out a model face like no other 🙂
Katy forgot her gorgeous engagement ring at home as they were heading out the door to Richmond so you’ll just have to wait until her wedding day to see her bling 🙂
We spent the morning wondering the grounds, talking about their latest wedding plans, and getting to know each other. I cannot wait capture their wedding day in September at King Family Vineyard!!! Only 60 more days to go! Congratulations again Katy and Matt!!
As we walked down this grassy path, my Pandora app started playing “Marry You” by Bruno Mars through the Bose speakers. It was totally not planned but we all laughed at the coincidence. Definitely glad I bought some tunes along 🙂
