Cherie reached out to me several months ago when her precious baby girl, Harper, was approaching her 1 year old birthday!! She wanted me to capture some fun family photographs before we jumped into Harper’s Smash Cake session. We met at Meadow Farm here in Glen Allen and we had the entire place to ourselves. We walked around and explored the park. The weather was perfect — I love the golden hour sun. Harper’s outfit was too darn cute! An adorable sundress, a pink bow in her hair, gold sandals, complete with a BIG birthday girl smile!
Harper definitely has some of her Mommy’s pretty features but you can certainly tell that she’s a Daddy’s girl. We roamed around the park for about an hour before heading to Harper’s Grandma’s house for some fun pictures with her birthday cake. Outfit #2 for the birthday girl was even cuter!! I loved the festive balloons, the yummy decorated cake, and her crown! Everything tied together so nicely and really made the photos POP!
Harper was pretty worn out after the park so at first she wasn’t too excited about eating cake. I’m pretty sure I captured the perfect “it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to” moment — I still gave it to Mom & Dad because it’s still so adorable and I can see it in a frame at her Sweet 16 birthday party (LOL!). I knew that Cherie wanted those cute smash cake photos and I didn’t want her to be disappointed with not getting “the shot” of her birthday girl smiling and eating cake… So, I offered to come back later that week to have a re-do smash cake session so we could try again. It took some convincing for her to dig into the cake (it helped by putting cheerios into the cake so she could search for them) — she probably didn’t want to make a mess of the deliciously decorated cake. She had more fun dipping her toes into it. But once she tasted the yummy icing she dove right in 🙂
It was such a joy to capture some fun photos of this little girl’s 1st birthday. They grow up so fast! I know they will cherish these images forever. Enjoy browsing some of my favorites!
