New & Improved Blog

iWelcome1

WELCOME!! I’m SO very excited to announce that Allison Shumate Photography’s blog now has a new home! If you were a follower of my “old” blog… you would agree that the new and improved blog is much sexier! {Insert Justin Timberlake “I’m Bringing Sexy Back”!}. I previously had used Blogger for my blog template which was a OK… but nothing that really WOW’d me. And if I wasn’t into the design then I’m sure my prospective clients weren’t either. Sooo earlier this week I decided to do something about it.

My blog is a huge driver for new clients because this is where they can browse my work, meet my clients, and learn more about me and my crazy projects and ideas. On my “old” blog, it didn’t really have a call-to-action where followers could easily browse my posts, hop onto my website, learn about “the experience”, or easily get in touch with me… now you can!!

My blog makeover was actually a recent idea I had which of course I obsessed over to make it perfect. There are many reasons why this blog interface is better!!

  • The “parent company” for my blog is now ProPhoto which is primarily meant for photographers — it is very easy to use and navigate
  • On the homepage of my blog, you’ll notice that you can easily click to my website, learn more about my investment packages, follow me, and connect with me
  • My posts are now encrypted to just show a preview of each post as you scroll down the page (versus one post taking up the whole page). This gives you the option to “open the post” to read more or keep scrolling and browse around. This is also very helpful for me as I stay on top of my analytics to see what posts are getting clicked-through over others.
  • I LOVE the header collage at the top — this is a quick and easy way to see my photography style and what I specialize in
  • From an internal standpoint, the dashboard is amazing — I can quickly see on one screen all of the interactions on my posts (comments, likes, shares, etc.)
  • I’ve added a “Categories” tab at the top so you can easily browse around to the topics that interest you
  • There is a search feature at the top where you can easily find a post that you may have missed or want to re-visit
  • There are great slideshow features that I can incorporate into my posts to keep it entertaining
  • The chevron design is only at the top as opposed to the full website — I found it distracting from my posts on my “old” blog so I decided to change that part up (working on tweaking my website next…)
  • The mobile web version is much better!
  • I was able to import my “old” blog into my new one which was a bonus!
  • Much more features and benefits!!!!

Even though it was rather time-consuming, very tedious, and a little bit of an investment to get this new blog up and running… It was totally worth it! Overall, I’m very happy with the design! This was a huge leap forward for my business. Of course, I’ll make tweaks here and there as I go. But now I feel good knowing that my followers, clients, and prospective clients have a user-friendly blog to browse through with a much more cozy and “at-home” feeling interface.

Leave a comment below and let me know what you think!! I’d love to know your thoughts if I should add anything else that I might be missing  🙂
