The evening of December 12, 2011, started out as any ordinary night but it will be a night that I will always remember. I came home from work, got my PJ’s on, poured myself a glass of wine, and snuggled up on the couch.
Ryan came home shortly after and wanted me to get some warm clothes on and come outside to help him move some things out from his car. With a pouting face I begged that we wait until the morning to do it since I was so cozy on the couch. But he insisted so I put on my slippers and coat, walked outside, and noticed he had turned on all the white Christmas lights on our back patio. It was like a winter wonderland!!!
We recently made a tradition that every Christmas we would give each other an ornament that symbolized something special from that year. Ryan told me that he wanted to give me my ornament early and to go look on the Christmas tree that was lit up on the patio…
I walked over to find a precious champagne bottle ornament with a GORGEOUS ring sparkling around the bottleneck. I turned around to look at Ryan and he was already down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! I burst into tears, fell to my knees, wrapped my arms around him and said… YES!!!
I was SO surprised. He caught me completely off guard. We got some fun pics afterwards to showcase my hot outfit in my PJs… Just a few days before this night we were dressed up at the Jefferson for a holiday party and I thought for sure that he was going to pop the question then… but I loved that it was spontaneous, romantic, and on the porch at our home where we spent every night that summer talking for hours about anything and everything. It was such a beautiful moment… just me and Ryan (and Jax!) and the twinkling Christmas lights.
After pinching myself back to reality… I immediately called my parents!! They had a hunch that it was coming soon because Ryan had gotten my Dad’s permission earlier that week (SO cute!). They had the champagne on ice and they were ready for “the call”. My brother, Maury, and Ryan’s Mom, Kathie, joined us at my parents house to toast to the celebration!!!!
It was an unforgettable evening and the wedding planning quickly kicked into gear! You can read all about our incredible wedding day here. We recently hung the champagne bottle ornament on our tree and every time I see it I’m reminded of this special night and how far we’ve come. I’m certainly one lucky lady!!!
Happy Thursday 🙂
